Fans may be surprised to learn that Luka Doncic is playing at a higher level than Michael Jordan at this point in his NBA career. As members of the basketball community are well aware, Doncic is the Dallas Mavericks’ franchise superstar, and he has helped the organisation reclaim its importance in recent seasons.
Michael Jordan, an NBA legend, needs no introduction in the basketball world. To the few fans who are uninformed, Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and is still widely considered as the best player in basketball history.
Jordan is frequently compared to various modern-day stars because he has established himself as the baseline or standard for the heights of greatness that a player can aspire to. While almost any star’s excellent numbers would pale in comparison to Michael Jordan, Doncic’s remarkable statistics have fans excitedly comparing the two NBA legends.
Luka Doncic is averaging better overall numbers compared to Michael Jordan in Year 6
Although Doncic has yet to lead his club to an NBA title at this stage in his career, his individual numbers and statistics appear to outperform Michael Jordan in their sixth year in the league. Jordan had an excellent average of 33.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in Year 6.
In comparison, Luka has produced higher overall numbers in Year 6, averaging 34.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 9.6 assists. Luka’s improved numbers may simply indicate that he is the better player, given the common notion that the NBA has significantly more talent now than it did during Jordan’s era.
However, several fans were quick to point out that there is a significant gap between the two stars that is not taken into account when comparing their statistics.
Fans defend Michael Jordan by pointing out the gap in defensive abilities
While the NBA has always favoured offence, there is little doubt that defence is just as essential. After all, defence accounts for half of an NBA game. Those who have followed Doncic’s performance since the beginning of his NBA career will know that he is not a particularly excellent defender. Particularly when compared to Michael Jordan.
Jordan led the league in thefts and was named to the all-defensive team multiple times during his career, indicating that he was more impactful on both sides of the court than Luka Docnic.
Nonetheless, there is no denying that Luka has a higher average in points, assists, and rebounds than Jordan. Fans are left wondering whether Luka will be able to add a few titles to his legacy before his NBA career ends.
